Thylacine Enamel Pin

Sale price $8.00 Regular price $10.00

One of three pins in my new extinct animals series, highlighting some of my favorite animals who have sadly gone extinct.

This pin features the Thylacine, or Tasmanian Tiger, a marsupial that was once native to Tasmania, New Guinea, and the Australian mainland. The thylacine had become extremely rare or extinct on the Australian mainland before British settlement of the continent, but it survived on the island of Tasmania along with several other endemic species. Intensive hunting encouraged by bounties is generally blamed for its extinction, with the last thylacine in captivity dying in 1936 after unsuccessful breeding attempts. The Australian Rare Fauna Research Association reports having 3,800 unconfirmed sightings of this elusive and shy creature on file from mainland Australia since the 1936 extinction date.

This pin measures 1.65" at its widest and is gold plated hard enamel. Colors may vary on different screens.
